UNICEF Engages Youth Groups on Climate Change Through Collaboration with the Katsina State Ministry of Youths and Sports Development.

The UNICEF Kano Filed  office has made an effort to assist Katsina State in mitigating the negative impact of climate change and transforming Plastics waste into wealth in the state. 

The UNICEF, WASH Program Officer, Mrs. Stella IFY Terver, pointed out that UNICEF has collaborated with the Katsina State Ministry of Youth and Sports development to engage youth groups focusing on the fight against climate change and open defecation. 

Mrs. Stella made these remarks during an inception meeting with about 30 youth groups with 90 members in Katsina State  held at the State Secretariat's conference hall on Wednesday 14 August 2024. 
She highlighted that the purpose was to interact with youth groups to educate them on how to protect their environment from the risks of climate change and  Plastics waste management.

She stressed the significance of creating a conducive environment by planting and nurturing plants to maturity. 

In a welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development Alhaji Mika'il Surajo Muhammad, expressed gratitude for the UNICEF's contribution to ensuring a safe environment.
 
Alhaji Mika'il Surajo Muhammad, promised to provide all necessary support to ensure the success of the program. Speaking, the Director of Youths Development, Malam Sani Yahaya, highlighted the procedures for registering youth groups to meet the requirements set by UNICEF.
